Frank Bezzina faces a secret ballot to become the University of Malta’s next rector, needing 50% plus one vote.
Frank Bezzina is the only candidate nominated for rector of the University of Malta, with the University Council set to vote in a secret ballot on 26 March 2026.
He must secure at least 50% plus one vote of those present to succeed Rector Alfred J. Vella, who has served ten years.
Bezzina, currently Pro-Rector for International Development and Quality Assurance, has held leadership roles in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy and has published in international journals.
He has also served as a non-executive director at the Central Bank of Malta and acted as President of Malta from June 2022 to March 2024.
A presentation and Q&A will precede the vote, with the winner becoming the 82nd rector in the university’s history.
