Connecticut to suspend gas tax for a month to ease rising fuel costs amid U.S.-Iran conflict.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has proposed suspending the state’s 25-cent gasoline and 48.9-cent diesel tax for one month to ease rising fuel costs, following a 50-cent-per-gallon increase since early March due to oil supply disruptions from the U.S.-Iran conflict.
The move, aimed at saving households about $20, would cost the state around $40 million and could be offset by reducing a planned $500 million sales-tax rebate or using an emergency fund.
The proposal has drawn bipartisan support, with lawmakers urging broader relief, including the wholesale fuel tax.
A similar federal gas tax suspension is under consideration, as U.S. average gas prices rose to $3.53 per gallon by March 11, 2026.
