Unconventional Concepts, Inc. plans 30 annual tests using non-explosive 155-millimeter projectiles fired over two football fields, with blasts reaching 180 decibels.
Tests would occur midday on weekdays, no more than twice daily, near a former Cold War missile silo.
While the company says the tests support military research and pose minimal risk, critics fear noise will disrupt wildlife, harm nearby homes, and damage the region’s natural tranquility.
Over 1,400 public comments have been submitted, and the Adirondack Park Agency has requested more information.
Though the Army’s DEVCOM Armaments Center has no current plans for testing, future experimentation could be considered based on military priorities.
