Wu Zhongwei of China won gold in the men’s snowboard cross SB-LL1 event at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Paralympics, overcoming a mid-race crash involving two competitors to claim victory in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
The 30-year-old, who lost his lower left leg in a car accident at 18, improved on his 2022 bronze medal, crediting his coach and perseverance after setbacks including a broken prosthetic.
His win helped China lead the medal count with 17 total medals, including eight gold, marking its most successful overseas Paralympic campaign.
Wu plans to compete again on March 14.
