U.S. Coast Guard cutter Munro seized 22,052 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific, marking the largest maritime drug bust in 18 years.
The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Munro returned to Alameda, California, on March 9, 2026, after an 119-day deployment that included the seizure of 22,052 pounds of cocaine— the largest maritime drug bust in 18 years.
The operation, conducted in the Eastern Pacific, involved a high-speed pursuit of a go-fast vessel using a surveillance drone and an MH-65 helicopter, which disabled the suspect boat with warning shots, leading to the arrest of six individuals.
The mission marked the largest haul ever for the Coast Guard’s tactical helicopter unit and was part of broader U.S. efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks.
The cutter had previously supported operations in the Atlantic under Operation Southern Spear after transiting the Panama Canal.
Commanding Officer Capt.
Jim O’Mara praised the crew’s professionalism and resilience, acknowledging the personal toll of the extended deployment.
