U2's 1987 album *The Joshua Tree*, a global hit and Grammy winner, was celebrated on its 30th anniversary with a record-breaking tour.
On March 9, 1987, U2 released their fifth studio album, *The Joshua Tree*, which became one of the best-selling albums globally and marked the band’s first U.S. number one album, spending nine weeks at the top of the Billboard 200.
It won two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and was added to the U.S. National Recording Registry in 2014.
To mark its 30th anniversary in 2017, U2 launched a global tour performing the album in full, earning over $316 million in its initial run and another $390.8 million through extended dates, making it the highest-grossing tour of the year.
