Mr. Soulsby’s station in Pontiac, built in 1926, survived the Great Depression, was restored in 2003, and added to the National Register in 2004.
Ambler’s Texaco Station in Dwight, constructed in 1933 and named after manager Basil “Tubby” Ambler, received National Park Service support in 2002 and has been on the National Register since 2001.
Today, it serves as the village’s visitor center.
Both sites are celebrated for preserving Route 66’s legacy.
