Swindon and Wiltshire Pride gets £69,500 to document LGBTQIA+ history from the 18th century to 2014.
Swindon and Wiltshire Pride has received a £69,500 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to launch "We Were Always Here," a project exploring LGBTQIA+ history in Wiltshire from the 18th century to 2014.
The initiative will create a portable exhibition, a free illustrated history book, and educational resources for schools and online use, with a permanent display at the Pride Hub in Swindon.
It is recruiting paid staff and volunteers, especially older community members who lived through key historical changes like the 1969 partial decriminalization of homosexuality, to preserve personal stories before they are lost.
The 2026 Swindon and Wiltshire Pride event is set for August 15 at GWR Park.
