Survivors of abuse at two B.C. schools reach $30M settlement with institutions, pending court approval.
A proposed $30 million settlement has been reached in a class-action lawsuit by former students who allege sexual, physical, and psychological abuse at Vancouver College and St. Thomas More Collegiate between 1976 and 2013.
The case, filed in 2021 and certified in 2023, claims the schools and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Vancouver failed to protect students by allowing Christian Brothers with known abuse histories to teach.
The settlement, pending B.C.
Supreme Court approval, would compensate survivors and close future legal claims against the institutions, though individual defendants like Edward English are not included.
A hearing is set for April 30, 2026.
