South Africa to hold voter registration June 20–21, 2026, ahead of local elections.
South Africa’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced a voter registration weekend on June 20–21, 2026, ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
Though no official election date has been set, the IEC is preparing to hold elections within 90 days of the current councils’ term ending on November 2, 2026.
The commission emphasized readiness, urging voters to register and verify details online, with field workers supporting those affected by ward boundary changes in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The IEC has allocated R1.116 billion for the elections and continues voter education and logistics planning.
