Nigeria's Court of Appeal voids PDP's 2025 convention, upholds caretaker committee as legitimate leadership.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld a lower court ruling invalidating the PDP’s November 2025 national convention in Ibadan, citing failure to hold state-level congresses in over 14 states, improper notice to INEC, and violation of court orders.
The three-judge panel confirmed the convention was unconstitutional and unlawful, voiding the election of Taminu Turaki as party chairman and affirming the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu as the only legitimate leadership.
The ruling bars INEC and security agencies from recognizing any officials from the Ibadan event and orders the Turaki faction to pay N2 million in costs.
Both sides may appeal to the Supreme Court, whose decision will determine the PDP’s official leadership ahead of upcoming elections.
