Maharashtra introduces flexible work hours for women employees to ease commutes and boost safety and work-life balance.
Maharashtra has launched a flexible work schedule for women state employees in Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area, allowing them to start between 9:15 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. and leave up to 30 minutes early, aiming to ease rush-hour commutes.
The initiative, announced by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar during an International Women’s Day session, is part of broader efforts to improve women’s safety, work-life balance, and empowerment.
The state also continues programs to locate missing persons, with 42,594 children and 5,066 women traced since 2015, and has established 51 Bharosa Centers to support women.
Additional measures include 180 days of maternity leave, up to one year of half-pay leave without a medical certificate, and digital safety initiatives at railway stations.
