Madagascar’s interim president fired the prime minister and cabinet, amid political unrest and national crises.
Madagascar’s interim President Michael Randrianirina has dismissed Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo and the entire cabinet on March 9, 2026, in a major government reshuffle.
The move, announced by presidential spokesperson Harry Laurent Rahajason, follows months of political instability and public pressure from youth movements criticizing governance and transparency.
No reason was given, and a new prime minister will be appointed soon, with ministry secretaries-general managing daily operations in the interim.
The decision comes amid ongoing crises, including deadly cyclones, a dam collapse, and a state of national disaster declared in February.
Randrianirina, who took power in October 2025 after a military-backed transition, has signaled a two-year transition period before elections.
