India aims to enter top five in global IP efficiency, with rapid patent growth and expanded support for innovators.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal announced India’s goal to rank among the top five countries globally in intellectual property (IP) system speed, transparency, and efficiency.
Speaking at a New Delhi conference, he highlighted India’s rise from 81st to 38th in the Global Innovation Index and a 215% increase in patent filings over the past decade, with the country now ranked 6th globally.
Goyal emphasized support for startups, MSMEs, women, and youth, citing a 345-fold increase in women’s patent filings.
Plans include 50,000 school-based innovation labs, an 80% fee reduction for women and small enterprises, and fast-track IP processing to accelerate innovation and market entry.
