The crash involved a 2023 white Hyundai Ioniq traveling west and a silver Hyundai i20 going east.
Three victims died at the scene, including two teenagers and a man in the back seat of one vehicle; a teenage girl was critically injured and airlifted to Canberra Hospital, while other injured passengers, including a seven-year-old and a three-year-old, were hospitalized in stable or serious condition.
The highway was closed overnight and reopened Tuesday at 5 a.m. NSW Police and the Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit are investigating, seeking dashcam footage or witness information via Crime Stoppers.
The incident contributes to a rise in road fatalities in NSW, with 65 deaths reported in 2026 compared to 47 at the same time in 2025.
