Gujarat has launched the 'Lake and Air Watch' initiative to monitor lake and air quality in real time across 17 municipal corporations and 152 municipal areas, using satellite technology and ground stations. With a Rs 10 crore investment, the program tracks pollution, siltation, algae growth, and Air Quality Index levels, issuing automatic alerts when thresholds are exceeded. A centralized digital dashboard provides public access to data, maps, and trends, improving coordination among departments and transparency. The effort supports sustainable urban development, climate resilience, and public health amid rapid urbanization.
