A DUI crash on Savannah Highway killed Phyllis Miller; driver Hernandez-Martinez was arrested and jailed under ICE hold.
A fatal crash on Savannah Highway in Ravenel on March 8, 2026, killed 69-year-old Phyllis Miller, a passenger in an SUV that collided with a pickup truck driven by 44-year-old Ricardo Hernandez-Martinez.
The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. when Hernandez-Martinez allegedly changed lanes in front of the SUV, causing the crash.
Three other occupants of the SUV were hospitalized.
Hernandez-Martinez was arrested at the scene on felony DUI charges resulting in death, a charge carrying up to 25 years in prison, and booked into jail under an ICE detention hold.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, but no details on how the DUI charge was determined were released, and the incident report remains unpublished.
