Bell completes design review for DARPA’s high-speed VTOL X-76, paving way for 2028 flight tests.
Bell Textron has completed the Critical Design Review for DARPA’s SPRINT X-76 program, launching the aircraft into the manufacturing phase.
The X-76, a high-speed, runway-independent VTOL demonstrator, will cruise at 400–450 knots using a tiltrotor design with a Stop/Fold rotor system.
Developed with U.S. Special Operations Command, the project aims to overcome speed and agility trade-offs in military aviation.
Construction and ground testing are underway, with flight testing planned for early 2028.
The program, part of a joint DARPA and military initiative, builds on Bell’s decades-long X-plane legacy and supports future advanced aircraft development.
