In March 2026, a 21-year-old woman in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, filed an FIR accusing her husband, Dr. Zainul Abedin, and seven family members of triple talaq, dowry harassment, physical abuse, and fraud.
She alleged they demanded over Rs 36 lakh before and during her December 2024 wedding, including funds for a hospital and a government job bribe, and provided fake gold jewelry.
After returning to her parents’ home in January 2025, she faced ongoing abuse and demands for Rs 5 lakh and a car.
On February 14, 2026, neighbors intervened after her husband allegedly tried to strangle her, and he reportedly declared instant divorce three times in front of witnesses, violating India’s 2019 ban.
The case is under investigation by Bhadohi police.
