Weston Bears open upgraded Bear Park with new facilities and plans for women’s football.
The Weston Bears unveiled a $6.4 million upgrade to Bear Park in Scone, NSW, funded by Cessnock City Council and the Australian Government’s Growing Regions Program.
The renovation includes a new grandstand, clubrooms, canteen, offices, change rooms, gym, and improved facilities enabling simultaneous male and female matches.
The club is now advancing plans for a full women’s football pathway, starting with girls in community programs, and has formed a working group with Northern NSW Football.
A second phase may include a synthetic field and pickleball courts.
The opening coincided with regional matches, including a 4-2 loss to Charlestown Azzurri, while other games saw Maitland come back to beat Belmont Swansea 4-3 and Cooks Hill defeat Valentine 6-0.
A Newcastle Olympic vs. Adamstown match was postponed due to rain.
