A South African businessman denied links to a suspended police minister, claiming he lost money in a failed health contract venture.
North West businessman Suliman Carrim testified before the Madlanga Commission, denying any connection to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu despite WhatsApp messages suggesting otherwise.
He claimed he lost R8.2 million after investing R10 million in Medicare24, a company linked to Vusimuzi Matlala, which had secured a R360 million SAPS medical services contract later canceled.
Carrim said he received only R1.7 million in return, describing it as a loan repayment, and alleged his friend Brown Mogotsi sent a message falsely claiming Mchunu had delayed the probe to pressure Matlala.
Carrim denied knowing Mogotsi was communicating with Matlala and said he had no access to internal police documents, claiming the information came from Mogotsi.
The commission continues investigating allegations of influence-peddling and corruption in the security cluster.
