North Dakota will distribute nearly $200 million in federal Rural Health Transformation grants, the largest per-capita allocation in the nation, starting in mid-March.
The funding, part of a $50 billion national initiative, will support rural health care over five years, with 58% directed toward expanding local care access, 17% for health technology, 16% for workforce recruitment and retention, and 9% for a “Make North Dakota Health Again” initiative.
The state aims to award grants in phases by September 30, earlier than the October 31 deadline, and is hosting forums, hiring staff, and launching programs with UND and North Dakota State University to strengthen rural health care and address chronic disease, which drives 70% to 85% of health spending.
