Nigeria’s Court of Appeal upholds former general Umar Mohammed’s fraud conviction and sentences him to prison, ordering repayment of $4.3 million and forfeiture of over $13 million in assets.
Nigeria’s Court of Appeal has upheld the 2023 conviction of former Army General Umar Mohammed for fraud involving N1.65 billion and misappropriation of funds from Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), rejecting his appeal over jurisdiction and evidence.
The court cited contradictions in his testimony, including denying NAPL’s berthing services despite authoring related documents.
The ruling affirmed his prison sentence and repayment order.
Separately, a Lagos Federal High Court ordered the permanent forfeiture of over N5 billion in shares linked to Mohammed and businessman Kayode Filani, citing proceeds from unlawful activities, under constitutional and anti-fraud laws after public notice.
