Nigeria protests Mozambique's arbitrary detention of 42 Nigerian residents.
Nigeria has demanded the immediate release of 42 Nigerians detained in Mozambique without charges, calling the arrests arbitrary and potentially xenophobic.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) said the men, all legal residents, were targeted during a raid at a spare parts market, allegedly beaten, had belongings stolen, and some are now ill. NiDCOM emphasized no charges have been filed, the Mozambican Attorney General is unaware of any, and proper legal procedures must be followed.
The government urged authorities to either release the detainees or formally arraign them.
