On March 9, 2026, Bangladeshi security forces launched a large-scale operation in Jungle Salimpur, Sitakunda, deploying around 4,000 personnel from the army, police, RAB, and other agencies to dismantle criminal networks in the remote, hilly area.
The operation, beginning at 6:00 a.m., followed the killing of a RAB officer in January and aimed to restore government control over a region long plagued by illegal activities, including arms smuggling and land grabbing.
Authorities sealed all access points, conducted cordon-and-search missions, and detained about 15 individuals, though key suspect Md Yasin evaded capture.
While the area is now under control, the operation remains ongoing, with plans to establish permanent security camps and address persistent challenges in the rugged terrain.
