A 33-year-old man was arrested in Tacoma on suspicion of first-degree arson after an early-morning fire broke out around 1:10 a.m. on Sunday at an apartment on South 11th Street.
The blaze started when a pile of garbage near the front door was set ablaze, spreading flames to the building’s exterior and filling the unit with smoke.
One resident was rescued and treated for injuries.
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set, and police made the arrest at the scene.
The incident occurred about a block south of People’s Park, and the case remains under active investigation.
