India forms 17-member panel to revamp SEZ policy, aiming for SEZ 2.0 in six months.
India has formed a 17-member committee to overhaul its Special Economic Zones (SEZ) policy, aiming to create a SEZ 2.0 framework within six months.
The group, including officials from key agencies, will assess the SEZ Act, 2005, in today’s global economy, evaluate recent changes like limited domestic sales at reduced import duties, and examine impacts on exports, investment, and jobs.
It will also study international models, address operational challenges, and align SEZs with other export schemes.
The move follows a 2024–25 period when SEZs contributed $172.27 billion in exports across 276 zones and 6,279 units.
