A former Sanford surgeon sued the health system over retaliation after reporting flawed performance data used to evaluate doctors.
Dr. Sabha Ganai, a former Sanford surgical oncologist, sued the health system in federal court, alleging retaliation and wrongful termination after she raised concerns about using unreliable Vizient performance data—based on billing codes without clinical verification—for evaluating surgeon outcomes.
She claimed Sanford ignored internal findings of poor data accuracy, placed her on a performance improvement plan, denied her peer review request, and failed to act on her rebuttal data showing favorable patient outcomes.
Ganai also criticized Sanford’s leadership as “toxic” in an anonymous survey.
The case, initially filed in 2024, was moved to federal court, with Sanford declining to comment on the ongoing litigation.
