Fiji's court orders urgent resolution after immigration tried to deport acquitted Canadian man Joshua Rahman during his pending retrial.
Fiji’s Suva High Court has ordered the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to resolve a legal conflict within three hours after Immigration labeled Canadian national Joshua Rahman a “prohibited immigrant” while his retrial is pending.
Rahman, recently acquitted of a major drug charge after serving seven years of a 23-year sentence, was granted bail and released on a $2,000 bond with strict conditions, including reporting to police and a travel ban.
Judge Thushara Rajasinghe criticized the deportation move as legally questionable and potentially coercive, noting it undermines ongoing proceedings.
The case is set to reconvene on April 13, 2026.
