Delhi court grants Sharjeel Imam 10-day bail in 2020 riots case for brother’s wedding and mother’s care, with strict conditions.
A Delhi court granted Sharjeel Imam, accused in the 2020 northeast Delhi riots case, 10 days of interim bail from March 20 to 30, 2026, to attend his brother’s wedding and care for his ailing mother.
The additional sessions judge, Sameer Bajpai, approved the relief despite prosecution objections, imposing strict conditions: Imam must remain at home or wedding venues, avoid contact with witnesses or media, keep his mobile active, and surrender by March 30.
He must also provide a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount.
The riots, linked to protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, left 53 dead and over 700 injured.
The court’s decision follows a January 2026 Supreme Court denial of bail to Imam and co-accused Umar Khalid, citing sufficient evidence of involvement in a larger conspiracy.
El tribunal de Delhi otorga a Sharjeel Imam una fianza de 10 días en el caso de disturbios de 2020 para la boda de su hermano y el cuidado de su madre, con condiciones estrictas.
