Actor and politician Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), unveiled a series of welfare promises ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections during an International Women's Day event. Key pledges include a monthly ₹2,500 cash allowance for women heads of households under 60, six free LPG cylinders annually per household, a gold sovereign and silk saree for brides, and ₹15,000 annual support for education from Class 1 to Class 12. Additional measures include free bus travel for women, interest-free loans for self-help groups, free sanitary pads, a new women’s safety force, fast-track courts for gender-based crimes, and a gold ring for every newborn. The announcements are part of TVK’s campaign in a three-way electoral contest.
