UK consumers sue Sony for £2B over higher digital game prices since 2016.
Sony is facing a £2 billion class-action lawsuit in London over allegations it overcharged UK PlayStation users for digital games and in-game content since 2016, with claimants seeking £1.97 billion in damages.
The case, brought by consumer campaigner Alex Neill on behalf of about 12.2 million users, accuses Sony of breaching competition law by charging higher prices and a 30% commission—above rates on rival platforms—while leveraging its dominant market position.
The trial, set to last 10 weeks at the Competition Appeal Tribunal, will determine if Sony’s pricing practices were unfair.
Affected users will be included automatically unless they opt out.
The case follows a similar 2025 ruling against Apple.
Sony has not publicly responded.
