Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo set a new men’s half-marathon world record with a time of 57:20 at the Lisbon Half Marathon on March 8, 2026, surpassing Yomif Kejelcha’s previous mark of 57:30.
Running without pacemakers, Kiplimo posted splits of 13:28 at 5K and 27:00 at 10K, then pulled away in the final kilometers.
He finished ahead of Kenya’s Nicholas Kipkorir (58:08) and Gilbert Kiprotich (58:59).
The record is pending official ratification by World Athletics due to concerns over proximity to a lead pacing vehicle.
Kiplimo, a three-time world cross-country champion, previously held the record at 57:31 in 2021 and had a disqualifying 56:42 run in Barcelona due to pacing violations.
In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Tsige Gebreselama won in 1:04:48, defending her title.
