Telangana plans to give electric scooters to female college students, phase out diesel buses by Dec. 9, 2026, and retrofit 200,000 auto-rickshaws to electric, with no EV taxes.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced plans to provide electric scooters to female college students, a campaign promise not expected to launch this financial year. He also outlined efforts to eliminate all diesel buses in Hyderabad by December 9, 2026, replacing them with electric AC buses, and to retrofit around 200,000 diesel auto-rickshaws into electric models. The state will not impose taxes on EV purchases to boost adoption. Additional initiatives include exploring a single-use plastic ban, creating a forum to combat online misinformation, and relocating high-pollution industries outside the city.
