A 37-year-old Scarborough man has been charged in Perth over a one-punch attack that left a 62-year-old man in critical condition, following an alleged bank card theft earlier Friday.
Police say he stole a card, used it for a purchase, then punched the victim two hours later.
The suspect was arrested nearby and faces multiple charges, including aggravated robbery and grievous bodily harm.
Prosecutors may upgrade charges based on the victim’s condition.
The case adds to concerns over one-punch assaults in Western Australia, especially after the recent bail release of Brodie Dewar, accused in the fatal attack on Labor figure Tim Picton.
One-punch offenses in WA carry up to 20 years in prison, or 25 if alcohol or drugs were involved.
Premier Roger Cook has called for a review of prevention measures.
