Maketū Pies, a Bay of Plenty brand founded in 1982, is reviving after voluntary liquidation and acquisition by the Montana Group. Under new general manager Craig Williams, the company has streamlined its product line to 13 pies, returned to its original handmade recipe with higher-quality ingredients, and upgraded factory equipment and food safety systems. Operating from its original Te Puke location, the brand is rebuilding ties with retailers in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, aiming for steady growth by regaining trust and targeting 10% of New Zealand’s pie warmers.
