A judge ruled Kari Lake lacked authority to lead VOA, voiding her actions and restoring its global broadcasts.
A federal judge ruled that Kari Lake lacked legal authority to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media and invalidate her actions, including mass layoffs and cutting Voice of America’s global broadcasts, stating she was not a confirmed official or eligible under the Vacancies Act.
The decision, by Judge Royce Lamberth, voids her tenure and reverses efforts to limit VOA to just four languages, restoring prior operations.
The lawsuit was filed by former VOA journalists and a federal employee union, who welcomed the ruling as a win for press freedom.
Lake called the decision “bogus” and plans to appeal.
