Troy Murray, a former Chicago Blackhawks forward and longtime broadcaster, has died at 63 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
A third-round draft pick in 1980, Murray played 12 seasons with the Blackhawks, winning the Selke Trophy in 1985-86 as the NHL’s top defensive forward and helping the team win a Stanley Cup in 1996 with the Colorado Avalanche.
He played 15 NHL seasons, finishing with 584 points and 875 penalty minutes in 915 games.
After retiring, he served as a Blackhawks radio and TV analyst for over 20 years and was president of the team’s alumni association.
Blackhawks chairman Danny Wirtz praised Murray’s enduring spirit, dedication, and impact on the franchise and community.
