flag A Florida trooper shot a woman during a traffic stop after she stabbed him, leading to both being hospitalized and the woman being arrested on child neglect and abuse charges.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was stabbed multiple times during a traffic stop on State Road 836 in Miami-Dade County early Saturday morning after responding to a report of a wrong-way driver. The trooper, who had non-life-threatening injuries, shot the woman, who was with a young child, in self-defense after she allegedly attacked him with a knife. Both were taken to HCA Kendall Trauma Center. The woman, who had active warrants for child neglect, abuse, and fleeing law enforcement, was taken into custody by the Department of Children and Families for the child’s safety and will be booked into jail after medical release. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the trooper’s use of force.
