Butler County firefighter Jackson Warren, 27, died Friday in a crash while responding to a brush fire, becoming the department’s first line-of-duty fatality.
The incident occurred on Highway W, 10 miles north of Poplar Bluff, when the fire truck he was driving veered off the road.
Warren, recently promoted to shift commander, was on his first shift in the role.
His 53-year-old coworker sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
Warren, who joined the department in October 2021, was honored with a 24-hour escort by emergency responders.
His family has requested privacy, and support organizations are assisting.
The crash is the seventh traffic fatality in Troop E this year.
