A Dhaka court has summoned Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party, over a defamation case filed by Ashraful Islam, BNP Ramna Thana president, alleging Patwary made false and damaging social media posts about Mirza Abbas, a senior BNP member and prime minister’s adviser, during and after the recent national election.
The case stems from Patwary’s loss in the Dhaka-8 seat, where Abbas won with 56,552 votes.
The court has issued a summons, requiring Patwary to respond.
The BNP has since issued a show-cause notice to Islam for filing the case without party approval, demanding a written explanation within 48 hours.
