A U.S. judge dismissed a lawsuit by a deported college student who refused a government flight from Honduras, ruling she waived court jurisdiction.
A U.S. judge in Massachusetts dismissed a lawsuit by 20-year-old college student Lucia Lopez Belloza after she refused a government-arranged flight to return from Honduras, where she was deported in November despite a court order blocking her removal.
The judge ruled she waived the court’s jurisdiction by declining the flight, which she refused after being told ICE intended to re-deport her upon arrival.
Lopez Belloza, who came to the U.S. at age 8 and had been ordered removed in 2015, argued the government misled her and used the flight as a trap.
Her attorney plans to appeal, citing claims of deception and failure to comply with court orders.
