A Spitfire replica will fly across the UK April 7–17 to mark the 90th anniversary of the original’s first flight, with a stop in Cheshire and Wales on April 14.
A commemorative Spitfire flight honoring the 90th anniversary of the Supermarine Spitfire’s first flight will take place across the UK from April 7 to 17, with a leg over Cheshire and Wales on April 14.
The two-seat replica of the original K5054 will fly from Glasgow to RAF Valley, then along the Welsh coast to MOD St Athan, accompanied by historic and modern aircraft.
The public can bid for a seat via an online auction, with proceeds supporting the Mark Long Trust and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
The original K5054 first flew on March 5, 1936, with pilot Captain Joseph "Mutt" Summers declaring, “Don’t change a thing,” after eight minutes.
