Seattle officers may face discipline for not documenting ICE actions, per new city policy.
Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes announced that officers who fail to document U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enforcement actions—such as activating cameras and verifying agents’ identities—may face disciplinary action, including administrative leave.
The policy, backed by the city council and mayor, requires thorough documentation to ensure transparency and accountability during federal operations, though it does not stop ICE actions.
The city also plans to expand surveillance and limit ICE activity on public property.
While ICE declined to comment, it reiterated its opposition to obstruction of federal enforcement.
