Police chief warns bridge housing project at 330 Montreal Rd could disrupt operations and force costly changes.
Cornwall police chief Shawna Spowart raised concerns on March 5, 2026, about a proposed bridge housing project at 330 Montreal Road, the site of the police’s east-end station and collision reporting centre.
She warned the project could disrupt operations, as the centre recently moved there for improved safety and space, and the property also supports employee parking, custody exchanges, and community services.
With no room to relocate the centre if the northern parking lot is used for housing, and the police service lacking space at its current 340 Pitt St. location, Spowart said the city may need to fund adjustments.
Concerns were not raised during public consultations, but staff feedback has been collected and will be shared with council.
The police service, which has outgrown its facilities, plans a $55 million new headquarters, though construction is years away.
