Pensioners demand ₹7,500 monthly pension, medical care, and dearness allowance, citing ignored promises and a 2022 Supreme Court ruling.
Pensioners under the Employees' Pension Scheme 1995 will protest for three days starting March 9 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, demanding a minimum monthly pension of ₹7,500 with dearness allowance and free medical care for themselves and spouses.
Represented by the EPS 95 National Agitation Committee, the protest involves an estimated 8.1 million retirees from government, public, private, and media sectors who have contributed for 30 to 35 years but currently receive an average pension of about ₹1,171.
They claim the government has ignored repeated appeals despite promises of inclusive growth, citing a 2022 Supreme Court ruling supporting equal pension benefits.
The demonstration coincides with the second phase of Parliament’s Budget Session.
Los pensionistas exigen una pensión mensual de ₹ 7,500, atención médica y subsidio por dolencias, citando promesas ignoradas y un fallo de la Corte Suprema de 2022.
