Opposition parties challenge Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s impartiality in a no-confidence motion.
The Congress and Trinamool Congress have announced support for a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, citing repeated refusals to allow Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to speak and allegations of partisan conduct, including suspending opposition MPs and failing to act on derogatory remarks by ruling party members.
The motion, to be debated on March 9 during the second phase of the budget session, follows a three-line whip requiring attendance from March 9 to 11.
At least 118 opposition members have signed the notice, accusing Birla of undermining impartiality in parliamentary proceedings.
