On March 7, 2026, the Sivagiri Mutt delivered a memorandum to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, urging greater political representation for backward communities in Kerala, which it says have been increasingly marginalized since the time of R. Sankar, the first Congress Chief Minister and a follower of Sree Narayana Guru.
The Mutt highlighted that only one MLA from the community remains and called for Congress to field candidates from these groups in majority or winnable constituencies.
