A 55-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history, John M. Denton, was arrested in South Nashville in connection with a shooting that left a 19-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred Thursday at a WoodSpring Suites motel when Denton, who has prior felony convictions including aggravated robbery and assault, allegedly fired a pistol during a fight over a debt.
The victim, who called 911 and drove himself to a hospital, sustained injuries to his leg and shoulder and was transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police found bullet casings at the scene and arrested Denton at a relative’s home.
He is being held on a $250,000 bond on charges including attempted criminal homicide and illegal gun possession.
The investigation is ongoing.
