Indian Railways recorded a 2.97% year-on-year increase in freight revenue to ₹14,571.99 crore in February 2026, with freight loading rising 3.96% to 137.72 million tonnes.
Growth was driven by strong demand for iron ore, steel, fertilizers, and container cargo, including a 27.6% jump in iron ore and a 46.9% surge in steel plant raw materials.
Net Tonne Kilometres rose 4.18%.
Year-to-date freight volume reached 1.5038 billion tonnes, up 3.28%, with revenue at ₹1.61 lakh crore.
Officials credited infrastructure upgrades, dedicated freight corridors, and digital systems for improved efficiency.
